If you hadn’t guessed, I am counting down to the end of the semester. The half-way mark has come and gone, and I am ready for summer! This week, I had a Quant Queuing homework assignment due on Monday at 5 p.m., which I stressed all of my spring break over. I must have read that question at least 5 times and was totally baffled until I talked with my teacher, Dr. Moss, about it (but my fingers are still crossed about that!). After Monday, the next big struggle was my Business Communications’ newsletter (due on Friday at 3 p.m.). I had already interviewed Mardy Ashe, the Career Services Director, and arranged the format of the newsletter, but I hadn’t put the actual article in until Wednesday. Then on Thursday afternoon, I met with my newsletter partner and we put both our works together and printed it! That was a relief to have over with. (I was worried about that over spring break as well.) I had a Commands (Subjunctive) quiz for Hermana O’Connor in Span 302 on Wednesday, but other than all of that…
For the non-class related activities, this was a busy week for those, too! Monday morning, I was handed an invitation to the College of Business Awards Ceremony on Sunday, April 2nd. I am super excited about that. The awards/scholarships will be for the school year 2006-2007. I met with Paula Coates about my financial aid forms, just to stay on track with all the financial aid paperwork I have to turn in for 2006/7. On Tuesday night, at 6 p.m., I attended the Etiquette Reception, held by Career Services. We learned about proper ways to mingle, introduce yourself, excuse yourself, eat and talk, and other very interesting procedures. Later Tuesday night, at 8 p.m., I met with other prospective bloggers about starting up this blog. But the big event of this week was the Foreign Language Competition. A bunch of high schools from the surrounding areas all meet at Western every year and compete against each other in different events/contests. I judged the Extemporaneous Speaking Contest for Dr. Davis. This contest was truly one of the more challenging contests. The students had to be familiar and comfortable in their language and vocabulary, and there was no way the students were able to memorize a speech, like some of the others. It was in French or Spanish. Obviously, I only judged the Spanish, though I wish I knew French - it sounds great! So on Thursday, all of my classes (my Spanish classes were cancelled for the day) were pushed aside because it was held from 8 a.m. to later than 12 p.m. (when I left). The Quiz Bowl was still going strong when I left to try to make it to my Bus. Comm. class (with no luck). And on Friday, I went to Cullowhee Valley School to tutor (one of my classes), went to my Quant and Span 302 class, turned in my newsletter, and drove home for the weekend. I just got back from seeing a play at the Hickory Community Theater, “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” with my boyfriend. It was a musical, which I am not too fond of, but it was so funny and the songs were great! So if you are able to, I highly recommend it!
