Orientation in DC

Well, it’s Friday and I made it to the weekend. I flew into Dulles on Wednesday, met with 73 other interns with the Norm Mineta Program on Thursday and today met with over 600 interns with The Washington Center. This summer is The Washington Center’s largest group of interns. It was pretty amazing. The president and the director of The Washington Center spoke and reps from the New York Times and other civic organizations gave speeches, as well.

I have a three day weekend, which I am looking forward to. I believe I am still tired due to jet lag from Utah, and have used my afternoons for naps. We have done so much walking and haven’t seen a single tourist attraction. I don’t believe I will have much time for those. The work I will have this summer will be tremendous.

A minimum 36-hour work week, a night class, a huge portfolio, volunteer work, presidential forums, a weekly journal, a midterm and final assessment - and that is just for The Washington Center. I have to do a daily journal, a midterm and final assessment, and a paper for Western. All for 1 hour of credit! Whoa!

But so far, I have met a bunch of very talented and bright people. These individuals are extremely impressive and I am proud to be one of them.

(Happy Birthday Babe!  Wish you were here!)

Back to NC and on to DC!

As beautiful and friendly as Utah was and is, I am happy to be back to North Carolina.  But it’s not lasting long!  We just came back last night and I have to fly to DC Wednesday!  I haven’t even unpacked my stuff from Cullowhee, and I have already had to pack twice.  I am still not finished (procrastination).

Here are some pictures from my trip:

These are some picts from the plane:

Now I have one day to pack before I am on to my summer internship!  I am exhausted!

The End of Spring Semester!

Yes, we made it!  I was extremely happy to be stuck in traffic last night on my way home on I-40.  My car was riding low with all my stacks of papers from two semesters at Western, two laundry baskets of dirty clothes, but no school books!!  I turned my rental books in, which is always fun (I had a good time talking with the lady at the counter), and hiked the mile back to my car.

I think that by the time finals week is here, everyone (both students and teachers) is so fed up with the work they just don’t care anymore.  But now that it’s done, I am glad I tried so hard.  Good grades are extremely rewarding.  After taking seven finals, I am glad I was just auditing the eighth class (sorry Grace), because I just about lost it with seven!

Last night, I still had to finish my last class’s final:

As you can see, I was happy to be done, even at 12 a.m.!  But I turned it in this morning and felt a wave of relief.  No more school work! (For at least three weeks!)
