Graduation!!

Wow, I graduated!!  It feels so good to be able to say that.  I graduated with a BS for Criminal Justice in just 4 years!!

Graduation day was so amazing. The Ramsey Center was PACKED because everybody’s friends and families came to support them. All of the speeches during the ceremony were so interesting and inspirational. Seeing all of my friends faces as they got their diploma was so neat. Before the ceremony, we were all in the back room talking and laughing and you could just see the excitement in everybody’s eyes. Our class is like a gigantic family. I am so proud of my HUGE graduating class. Here are a couple pictures:

I am staying in Cullowhee until August because my lease at the apartments isn’t up until then. I am very excited about that because I don’t want to leaveCullowhee yet!! I love it here and this summer should be so much fun. All of my friends stay up here during the summer because we enjoy it so much!!

End of the year!

I have been so busy lately!!  Its come down to the end of the year and Im just trying to get all my work done.  Tomorrow I will hand in my last paper at WCU.  It’s crazy that it has gone by so quick!  Graduation is Satuarday.  It’s going to be so crazy seeing all of us dressed up in our caps and gowns, graduating together.  I can’t wait to see all my friends beautiful faces in the crowd.  It feels good to be done.  I feel so happy to say that I will be getting a degree from Western soon.  More updates soon.  Gotta go write!

Fear Factor

The apartment complex that I live at had a “Fear Factor” of its own this week.  I live at Catamount Peak, a student community complex.  I lived on campus until this year which was really fun, especially living in the new Greek Village.  When you do decide you would like to move off campus, the apartment complexes around Western are really good because they are all student-focused.  They will match you up with roommates or you can choose your own.  They also have fun cookouts and programs such as this one this week.  The people had to drink and eat really gross things to win $50 gift cards at Walmart.  It was just a fun way to have all the people at the apartments get together.  Here is a picture:

Because I intern in Asheville, I am usually pretty busy and have opposite schedules of a lot of my sisters.  This week, I was able to go to our weekly dinner at Dodson.  It’s really great because no matter how busy we all are, we all try to make time to see each other during dinner.  Here is a picture of some of my sisters at Dodson.

Danny and Melinda

This week, Danny and Melinda from MTV’s the Real World came to Western.  They had a program in the UC for anybody who wanted to go.  Tons of people showed up.  It was really neat how they put on the lecture.  They showed clips of episodes from the Real World where issues were brought up.  They talked about safe sex, being careful while at parties, drunk driving, etc.  Danny even gave us his personal experience about being drugged.  They gave wonderful tips and inspiration to stay safe.  At the end, they let the audience ask questions, which was funny.  Danny talked about how he felt, being knocked out in front of cameras, haha.  Danny and Melinda signed autographs and took pictures with us all after it was over.  This enrichment program was very fun and memorable.

This is Danny and Melinda signing autographs.

The Orange Peel

I am currently doing an internship at The Orange Peel in Asheville.  It is a music venue so I help with security matters during and after concerts.  I love music so this is a perfect internship for me.  This weekend, George Thorogood and the Destroyers played.  Their opening act was Cross Canadian Ragweed which is really cool because I am a big fan.  They are really nice guys.  During the concert, I stood at the edge of the stage where the entrance to the backstage area was.  I had to make sure that nobody jumped up on stage, got in fights, tried to slip backstage, etc.  Most of the people that came to see George Thorogood and the Destroyers were their original fans.  That made the majority of the crowd 40 - 50 year old men.  I thought that it would be a pretty easy concert to manage but I quickly learned that drunken, 40-year-old men do not like to listen to 21-year-old women when it came to regulating them.  A few people did not understand why I could not just let them backstage so they could hang out with George Thorogood.  It is pretty intimidating at first, having to stand up to someone who is twice your age and size.  This internship has really taught me how to be stern and stand my ground.  I don’t have the physical intimidation going for me so I have to have an intimidating personality while working in this criminal justice position.  I have really become good at it!  Anyway, at the end of the night, no huge problems happened so everything was OK.  The concert was great and I got to watch a good show so that was fun.  I met George Thorogood at the end of the night which was neat.  I love this internship!
