Listening to... “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston
This weekend was incredibly busy!!! Friday night was a combination of Relay For Life and an Up All Nite sponsored by Last Minute Productions, the student programming board. Relay For Life is a pretty big thing @ WCU that most student organizations get involved in either by selling things on site to fund raise or having a team walk all night. I would have to say my favorite fundraiser was the Kappa Sig’s homemade ice cream. I had about 3 cups before I cut myself off… I think Relay went really well this year compared to last year. Last year, it started raining early in the evening, and that drove a lot of people away. This year it didn’t start raining until about 3am. It started off as a few random drops and then BAM! five seconds later what felt like hail started falling, effectively soaking all of us as we franticly ran around trying to blow out the candles in the luminaries before they caught the bags on fire and turned the UC Lawn into a “Ring of Fire.” But, even with the rain we raised a lot of money and still managed to have some fun.... While all of this was going on out on the UC Lawn, Up All Nite was going on inside the UC. The Chronicles of Narnia was showing in the theater with karaoke was going on in Illusions, arts & crafts and bingo in the Grandroom, a drum circle on the second floor and enough free pizza to feed even the hungriest of college students. After a while I took a break from walking, went inside and proceeded to busted several eardrums while doing a little karaoke (I couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket with a steel reinforced lid)… In addition to all of that inside there was also laser tag set up in the midst of all the Relay stuff, but some how it still went smoothly. I managed to find time to play one game of laser tag w/ my favorite underage accomplice, and between the two of us we scored 90% of our team’s points… I stayed out on the lawn until around 4-ish then went back to my room and crawled into bed and didn’t walk up until about 4 in the afternoon, which felt great… I was just starting to clear the cobwebs when I get a call from my parents. They were suppose to be sending me a package for my birthday (on Sunday) and they called to let me know that someone had signed for it and it was downstairs sitting in the kitchen, so I rush out of my room and head downstairs only to run into my parents and my sister!!! Shocked was not even the word!!! I nearly fainted and I’ve never done it before in my life! You see it’s an 8 hour drive from my house to WCU, so its not like they just hopped in the car and dropped in to say hello. The fact that they managed to keep it a secret surprises me almost as much. The only downside to their sudden arrival was the fact I had to cancel some plans I had made with some friends and the fact that they kidnapped me for two day so I didn’t get some work I needed to do done, but the work was there when I got back and my friends understood. It was good to see my parents and argue with my sister (the little brat tried to get her grubby paws on one of my shirts). We hung out, did some shopping, and stuffed ourselves silly at The Olive Garden (my favorite chain restaurant). All in all it was a pretty good weekend, even though I officially have one foot in the grave now that I am no longer a teenager
